About

Welcome to Macabre Movie Madness!

My name is Jeff, and I am a banker and computer programmer by trade. I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico, one of the greatest cities on earth. When I’m not watching horror movies, I enjoy playing video games, MMA, coding, traveling to lesser-known vacation destinations (think Bakersfield, CA and El Paso, TX), lifting, and listening to rap, hip-hop, R&B and metal music. One of my favorite songs is “Good Man” by Raphael Saadiq.

Horror movies have been one of my earliest loves, and they still are. I distinctly remember having a copy of The Creature from the Black Lagoon on VHS tape, and I would watch it often. In fact, the original Universal Monsters were my gateway into the world of scary movies. The Mummy, Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolf man, etc. Over the course of my life, I have embraced the horror genre in its entirety, and I love all types, slashers, body horror, found footage, werewolves, and many more.

I get asked from time to time “Why do you enjoy horror movies?” and I think it’s because I have some sort of macabre curiosity. I want to see what disgusting things happen to us when some lab experiment goes wrong and turns us into something else. I want to live vicariously through a group of people who are trying to escape from or stop an unkillable thing. I want to see what evil spells, potions or rituals a witch is cooking up to wreak havoc on those who have wronged her.

Furthermore, I get asked “What’s your favorite horror movie?” That’s a tough question because there are so many good ones. Some of my favorites are: It Follows, You’re Next, Barbarian, Longlegs, Jennifer’s Body, Horror in the High Desert, Nope, Scream and Halloween. I could include quite a few more, but these are some of the ones that I think of first.

I have also watched some that I absolutely did not enjoy, such as Men. Typically, the ones I tend to not enjoy are the ones that try to be too artsy or abstract. I tried to watch Skinamarink multiple times but could never get through it.

I’d love to hear from you—what are some of your favorite horror movies?

Thanks for taking the time to visit my site! I started it because I wanted to write reviews that are more approachable than the professional critic reviews that you would find on websites like Rotten Tomatoes or IMDB.
